Warranty Policy
This Warranty Policy explains the scope, limitations, and application of warranties on products sold by Y-Containers. It is designed to reflect the industrial nature of shipping containers, modified containers, and Tiny House Capsules while remaining clear, fair, and transparent.
All warranties apply to purchases made and delivered within the United States.
1. General Warranty Principles
Shipping containers, modified containers, Tiny House Capsules, and related equipment are industrial assets, not consumer products. Warranty coverage focuses on structural integrity and functional operation, not cosmetic appearance or normal wear.
Warranty coverage varies based on:
- Product condition (new, used, refurbished, or as-is)
- Product category
- Customization work performed
- Manufacturer terms (where applicable)
2. Warranty by Product Condition
a. New / One-Trip Containers
Coverage:
- Limited warranty against structural defects
- Doors, locking mechanisms, and seals functioning as intended at delivery
- One-year structural warranty from date of delivery
Exclusions:
- Cosmetic marks from transport or handling
- Normal wear and tear
- Damage caused by misuse, modification, or improper placement
- Damage from improper lifting, grounding, or site conditions
New containers may include manufacturer-backed warranties where applicable. Manufacturer terms govern duration and remedies.
b. Used Containers (Cargo Worthy / Wind & Water Tight)
Coverage:
- Structural integrity at time of delivery
- Doors open and close properly
- Wind & water resistance as described
- 30-day satisfaction guarantee from date of delivery
Exclusions:
- Surface rust, dents, scratches, scuffs, or faded paint
- Wear consistent with prior service life
- Any modifications made after delivery
- Cosmetic condition variations between units
Used containers are not covered for cosmetic condition.
c. Refurbished Containers
Coverage:
- Repairs and improvements performed prior to sale
- Functional performance as described at delivery
- Warranty limited to the specific refurbishment performed
Exclusions:
- Cosmetic variation between units
- Wear unrelated to refurbishment work
- Damage caused after delivery
Warranty scope is limited to the specific refurbishment performed.
d. Tiny House Capsules (Modified Containers)
Coverage:
- Structural integrity of container shell (one-year from delivery)
- Customization work (doors, windows, insulation, electrical, plumbing) as specified in the Contract
- Workmanship warranty on modifications performed by Y-Containers
Exclusions:
- Appliances, fixtures, or components not supplied by Y-Containers
- Damage caused by improper installation, use, or site conditions
- Cosmetic imperfections or normal settling
- Wear and tear on interior finishes
- Damage from transportation after delivery
- Modifications made after delivery without written authorization
e. As-Is / Project Grade Containers
Coverage:
- None
As-Is containers are sold without warranty, except where explicitly required by law. Buyers assume all risk associated with condition and suitability. No returns, refunds, or exchanges are accepted for As-Is purchases.
3. Exclusions and Limitations
Warranty coverage does not apply to:
- Normal wear and tear
- Cosmetic issues (dents, scratches, rust, paint fade)
- Damage from improper handling, lifting, or storage
- Damage from misuse, abuse, or neglect
- Unauthorized modifications or alterations
- Damage from environmental exposure or natural disasters
- Damage from improper grounding or electrical connections
- Damage from improper site preparation or conditions
- Incidental or consequential damages
- Loss of use, business interruption, or project delays
- Costs related to relocation, removal, or reinstallation
4. Buyer Responsibilities
Warranty coverage is void if:
- The product is modified without prior written authorization
- Improper lifting, placement, or grounding occurs
- Use exceeds intended design parameters
- Products are not maintained in accordance with provided instructions
- Damage occurs during customer-arranged transport
Buyers are responsible for:
- Ensuring proper site conditions and preparation
- Conducting appropriate risk assessments
- Obtaining necessary permits and approvals
- Complying with all local regulations
- Properly maintaining the product
- Inspecting the product immediately upon delivery
5. Warranty Claim Process
To initiate a warranty claim:
- Notify Us Promptly: Contact us within 7 calendar days of discovering the issue by emailing sales@y-containers.com
- Provide Documentation: Include your order number, detailed description of the issue, and photographic evidence
- Do Not Modify or Repair: Do not modify or repair the product before receiving written approval from Y-Containers
- Allow Inspection: We may require inspection of the product at your location or request return for evaluation
- Follow Instructions: We will provide instructions for resolution, which may include repair, replacement, or manufacturer contact
Response Timeline:
- Acknowledgment of claim: 2 business days
- Initial assessment: 3-5 business days
- Resolution timeline varies based on nature of claim and availability of parts
6. Remedies
Warranty remedies are limited to one or more of the following, at Y-Containers’ discretion:
- Repair of the defective item
- Replacement of defective parts
- Replacement of the product (where applicable)
- Manufacturer service resolution (where applicable)
- Refund of the purchase price (in limited circumstances)
7. Limitations of Liability
- Warranty remedies are the sole and exclusive remedy for any warranty claim
- We do not cover consequential or incidental damages
- We are not liable for loss of use, business interruption, or project delays
- We are not liable for costs related to relocation, removal, or reinstallation
- We are not liable for third-party claims
Total Liability: Our total liability under this warranty is limited to the purchase price paid for the product.
8. Legal Compliance
This policy does not override rights provided under applicable U.S. law, including California law (Cal. Civ. Code § 1791.1). Any implied warranties required by law are limited in duration to the extent permitted.
9. Product-Specific Notes
a. Refrigerated Containers (Reefers)
- Coverage subject to manufacturer or supplier warranty terms on the refrigeration unit
- Structural coverage as per container condition grade
- Electrical or mechanical failures after commissioning handled through manufacturer service channels
- Improper power supply, misuse, or unauthorized repairs void coverage
b. Trailers, Chassis & Handling Equipment
- Manufacturer warranty only, where applicable
- Y-Containers does not provide independent warranties beyond delivery condition
